Middle East Current Psychiatry (MECP) is the official journal of The Okasha Institute of Psychiatry, Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt.
The Okasha Institute of Psychiatry aims to provide evidence based, high quality services to our patients. Aside from treating the disorder, the institute aims to assist psychiatric patients in overcoming the difficulties faced by offering the optimum psychiatric care and rehabilitation services.
Our vision is to continue as one of the leading research centres in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa in treating psychological disorders and successfully managing patients.
Aims and scope
Middle East Current Psychiatry (MECP), the official journal of The Okasha Institute of Psychiatry, Ain Shams University, is one of the Middle East’s leading psychiatric open access peer-reviewed journals. The journal publishes articles of exceptional interest in all areas of psychiatry, with a dedicated focus on clinical and experimental research. MECP aims to advance modern research in the Middle East by publishing innovative research on the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. The journal acts as an international forum for the dissemination of information. MECP publishes research, reviews, debate articles, commentaries and case reports.
About the Editor
Professor Tarek A. Okasha; M.D., Ph.D. M.S. (N&P), D.P.P., F.A.P.A., Dip. I.A.B.M.C.P.
Professor Okasha is the Editor-in-Chief for the Middle East Current Psychiatry journal as well as a professor of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University in Cairo. Along with his editor duties, Prof. Okasha has published over 70 articles in leading national and international journals and has supervised more than 80 student theses.
Prof. Okasha is also titled as the Director of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Psychiatry at Ain Shams University; the Founder of the Psychiatry unit at Misr University for Science and Technology; President of the Egyptian Alzheimers Society; Vice President of the Egyptian Society of Biological Psychiatry and a member of the scientific committee at the Ministry of Higher Education.
